Guess who sat outside while the rest of the family toured the church? There was no way to get around the fact that I was in shorts and a tank top with nothing to cover my shoulders or knees. With every cruise though, there are definitely a few key pieces that I will absolutely always pack in my suitcase. Orange Foldable Backpack – This is one of my favorite backpacks because it is very affordable, super cute and can easily fold up for easy storage. If you plan to do some hiking or sporty adventures like kayaking or boating, go for something warm but athletic. I love starting with basic colors and adding fun colorful accessories.
With a tie-it-yourself cinched waist and a flowing top and skirt, this classy cover-up is sure to turn heads while keeping you comfortable and cool. Pair it with a statement necklace, some black pumps, and an evening makeup look, and your day-to-night outfit is complete. The polka dot pattern is one of the most-used in the world of female fashion, but we’re still not bored of it yet. Perhaps it’s because it has transcended past the realm of boredom to become classic instead. Think of the tropical print as your way to dress not only for the weather, but in honor of it, in your own personal ode to sunshine. You may be dressed similarly to many men who you’re sharing the cruise ship with, but you can make a tropical shirt your own by choosing an electric pattern.
Cruise Clothes for Women: What to Wear on a Cruise
For a day at the port, make sure you are prepared with any day trip essentials. For example, pack things like sunscreen, a sun hat, extra bathing suit, coverup and comfortable shoes. Just about every cruise includes one or more ‘sea days’ where you’ll stay on the ship as you travel to the next port. On sea days, you’ll want to wear something casual and laid-back. If you don’t like dressing up, you might want to skip the formal dinner and go to a restaurant that night or to the buffet.
A long skirt is a great option to throw in your cruise bag. For one thing, it is well-suited to a variety of weather conditions, as it offers access to a breeze in hot weather and protection in cooler weather. For another thing, it looks adorable, especially with a tank top or top tucked into it.

Each cruise line also outlines its dress codes on its website. These days some cruises like Norwegian have moved to one type of dining called Freestyle dining. This means no set dining time, relaxed attire in the dining room, and flexibility to eat at one of the many onboard restaurants, cafés, and grills. During the day you’ll be by the pool, visiting the spa, taking a fun wine tasting course, eating lunch at the buffet, and doing many other very relaxed, casual things.
North Face Pullover Sweatshirt – I recommend a good basic pulloever sweatshirt and this NorthFace one has alwyas been my favorite. Perfect under a jacket when you are out exploring, And even better with a pair of leggins when just walking around the ship. Fleece Lined Leggings – Fleece-lined leggins were one of the best items I brought. And they can be layered under jeans for extra warmth. Sorel boots are really warm, come in tons of colors and very comfortable to walk around all day in.
Caribbean: Resort Casual
Last I checked, the 10 day forecast for Anchorage is in the 60s! I’m taking short boots, tennies, lots of layers and those silky long underwear just in case! Plus, I’ve heard you should make sure you take sunscreen and bug repellant for sure. What type of clothes style should you wear to your next party? Maybe you need some gear for your upcoming trip, or want to know what the best quality shoes are.
Pack at least one set of heels or flats to wear with your dress. If you like to workout then do bring your sneakers or workout shoes. Whether you chose to pack a dress with a solid color or with a print pattern, maxi dresses are ideal for hot weather.
Tropical print outfits for men
For this reason, I bring a light sweater to dinner every night. Even while sailing in the scorching Southeast Asian heat, I found myself chilly inside the ship each night. You’ll find that a light sweater is very versatile and travels well during day excursions too. After 25+ cruises and spending 105 days on a ship for a semester in college, I feel pretty confident in my ability to pack well for a cruise.
If you’re cruising for 7 nights, that means you’ll need about 7 different outfits to wear to dinner. With longer cruises, I will typically re-wear a dinner outfit to save suitcase space. There is no particular restriction when it comes to cruise outfits so just wear things that you’re most comfortable with – whether it’s jeans, skirts or maxi dresses. This is perfect casual cruise attire for on or off the ship. Kimono– A super lightweight addition to any women’s wardrobe and one of the best cruise wardrobe items. It can be used as a pool cover up with a bathing suit and flip flops. Striped t-shirts– A couple of striped t-shirts are perfect for a cruise and nicely nautical. Note that this is all Caribbean cruise attire but almost all these outfits would work for a Mediterranean cruise also.
If you are still not sure that this is your style, then you can wear a floral cover-up to carry it according to your style. We all enjoy wearing jumpsuits on vacation because they are extremely travel-friendly. It’s only one piece of clothing that will make you look stunning while also keeping your luggage light.
This is the perfect day to sleep in and explore your home away from home. For this day you’ll want to be casual, cute, and of course, comfortable. And just for good measure, I thought I’d include a cute example of something to wear to dinner aboard the ship. Something like this would be great because it doesn’t leave too much skin exposed to the cool temperatures in the dining room but it’s still super cute. A warm weather cruise is going to be relatively straightforward — shorts, tank tops, sundresses, sandals, etc. Luckily, most cruises have casual dress codes which make them pretty straightforward.
The nighttime is always the right time on a cruise, but nothing beats a poolside day on the ship. Cruises often offer several pools with accompanying culinary options, bars, and entertainment for the family. Whichever pool you choose, you’ll want to make sure that you're wearing a bathing suit that you feel comfortable lounging in but also moving about from deck to pool. A cruise vacation is a great place to experiment with clothing choices that you wouldn’t feel comfortable wearing in your everyday life in the office or out to lunch. Whether you’re going on a honeymoon cruise, cruising with kids or just treating yourself to a much needed vacation, these outfits should cover it!
